Many Arsenal supporters shed tears when
the club left its old Highbury stadium in
2006. But while the new venue lacks history,
it’s a ground worthy of one of the best
teams in Europe. The club missed out on the
Premier League title in the 2008/09 season,
but qualifi ed for UEFA Champions League
participation in 2009/10.

T: 020 8768 6000. www.cpfc.co.uk
Crystal Palace are what is generally known as
a yo-yo club. One season they’re promoted,
the next they’re relegated — or that’s how it
seems. At present, Palace reside in England’s
second tier, the Championship, and the
fact they don’t hold top-fl ight status means
tickets are easier to come by.
FULHAM FC
Craven Cottage, Stevenage Road, SW6 6HH.
Putney Bridge
T: 0870 442 1234. www.fulhamfc.com
Craven Cottage is one of London’s more old-fashioned football grounds. Situated in one of
the plushest parts of the capital, the stadium
plays host to an exciting, if inconsistent, team
and fans who have a healthy rivalry with their
over-achieving neighbours in Chelsea. Tickets
are often easily available.

White City/Shepherds Bush

a proud, triumphant history now playing at
a lower level. The team currently play in the
Championship and, although the standard

White Hart Lane/ Seven Sisters
T: 0844 844 0102. www.spurs.co.uk
Spurs are one of the capital’s glamour clubs
and the loyal fans of the north London team
are purists, enjoying free-fl owing football
played on the turf rather than in the air. White
Hart Lane is a grand old ground that can be
relied upon to generate a great atmosphere.

While it might not have the character of the
late Walthamstow Dogs, which went out of
existence last year, Wimbledon is easier to
get to. You can watch from the silver service
restaurant, the diner or from behind the
glass-fronted air-conditioned grandstand,
but the best fun is by the track.
