The new European Cities Collection by National Geographic Traveller (UK) takes an alternative insider tour of Europe’s capitals

See Europe’s cities through a fresh lens in the latest European Cities Collection by National Geographic Traveller (UK) — from guided vintage Fiat 500 rides through Rome to moonlit rollerskating tours around Copenhagen — available on newsstands now.

“Gone are the days of cookie-cutter itineraries and rigid guides,” says editor Charlotte Wigram-Evans. “Travellers want city breaks with rhythm and energy — and now, thanks to a new wave of passionate and innovate advocates eager to exalt their hometowns, European city tours have never been more original, fun and varied.”

According to ABTA’s Holiday Habits 2024 report, half of UK travellers seek ‘authentic experiences with local people’. With this in mind, the latest European Cities Collection is a love letter to the guides doing things a little differently. It covers everything from night and running tours to brewery tastings, urban art excursions and the rise of active city breaks, so readers will be able to discover Europe’s urban centres through alternative routes and perspectives.

Beyond active adventures, this edition explores:

  • The soulful sounds of Europe, from the haunting strains of fado in Lisbon to the pulsing techno beats of Berlin.
  • Why food halls are having a moment — think sizzling street eats, indie wine bars and chef-led pop-ups all vying for your attention.
  • How Amsterdam is ringing in its 750th year with canal-side concerts, art exhibitions, historical re-enactments and community-driven initiatives.

All this, plus a roundup of Europe’s finest hotels and experiences to help you plan your next urban escape.
