
Internship spotlight: David Bayne-Jardine looks back on his Youth Internship at APL Media
From writing a first-person travel piece to offering a helping hand at this year’s National Geographic Traveller (UK) Food Festival, David Bayne-Jardine honed a catalogue of skills and enjoyed a range of experiences during his four-week internship at APL Media in July.
While his work mainly supported the editorial team of National Geographic Traveller (UK) magazine, David gained additional insight into other company branches, including the marketing and events departments. He particularly enjoyed pitching original ideas, learning how to become a vigilant proof-reader and editor of commissioned work.
Of his time, David said: “It was a well-rounded month in which I developed pre-existing skills and obtained new ones in fields I had not encountered before. Being able to follow the process of magazine production proved an invaluable experience for me both personally and professionally.
“Everyone was so friendly and supportive, and my wonderful mentor Olivia was with me every step of the way, making sure I felt happy and confident in my work. I cannot thank APL Media enough for increasing my interest in the journalism sector even further.”
