National Geographic Traveller (UK) contributors sweep the BGTW and CATA awards 2025 

APL Media’s National Geographic Traveller (UK) team saw success across the British Guild of Travel Writer (BGTW) awards and the Central American Tourism Agency (CATA), with members of the team and its freelancers taking home the top prize across multiple categories. 

The winners honoured at the BGTW Awards are: 

  • BGTW Photographer of The Year: Jeremy Flint for his portfolio, including published work in National Geographic Traveller (UK) magazine. 
  • Travel Feature of The Year – Europe: Daniel Stables for his article ‘In the Valley of Thor’, published in the December 2024 issue of National Geographic Traveller (UK), which judges noted for its ‘evocative, atmospheric writing’. 
  • Journey Feature of the Year: Jessica Vincent for her article ‘Find the ancient heart of America on a road trip through the Indigenous Southwest’, published in the US guide alongside the Jan/Feb 2025 issue of National Geographic Traveller (UK). Jessica was commended for her ‘committed, sustained journalism’ and ability to combine ‘historic fact, political perspective and clear, mobile narrative’.   
  • Travel Photo Feature of the Year: Karolina Wiercigroch for her photo essay on ‘How passionate Colombians are shaking up Cartagena’s cultural scene’, published in the June 2025 issue of National Geographic Traveller (UK), with additional recognition for its ‘movement, emotion and clever composition’. 

Separately, Farida Zeynalova, associate editor at National Geographic Traveller (UK), was recognised at the 2025 CATA Awards for the Travel Feature of the Year – Magazine (online or print) with her piece on ‘How this guide is preserving Maya culture through food’.  

The BGTW Members’ Excellence Awards (MEA) scheme recognises the very best work of members in travel writing, photography, blogging and broadcasting in a series of awards judged by UK and international travel industry professionals. 

The CATA Awards 2025 honour excellence in travel storytelling and business practices that promote Central America and the Dominican Republic. The awards recognise outstanding traditional media, content creators and UK travel industry efforts promoting travel in Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic.
