On the trail of New Wave Anatolian Cuisine in London with the International Gastronomy Film Festival

On 22 April, National Geographic Traveller (UK)’s senior content strategist Berkok Yüksel participated in a two-hour panel on ‘New Wave Anatolian Cuisine in London’ as part of the International Gastronomy Film Festival. The Q&A took place at the Clore Management Centre at Birkbeck, University of London, and featured owner of the Mangal II restaurant, Ferhat Dirik, and chef and food writer Melek Erdal.

Moderated by Ismail Ertürk, a senior lecturer at the University of Manchester, the panel shared their perspectives on the new generation of food writers and chefs that’s reshaping Anatolian cuisine in London.

During the Q&A, Berkok delved into:

  • The role of food writers in the evolvement of diaspora cuisines
  • Media coverage and how the press influences the Anatolian dining scene in the capital
  • How the dialogue between Turkish cuisine and diaspora dishes in Türkiye unfolds

The annual film festival aims to cultivate awareness and understanding of cross-cultural food stories and traditions.
