The Luxury Collection by National Geographic Traveller (UK) is on newsstands now

This autumn, The Luxury Collection by National Geographic Traveller (UK) celebrates extraordinary journeys across land, sea and sky, where getting there is all part of the experience.

Increasingly, travellers are choosing trips for the journey itself. According to Visa, experiential rail tours grew by 59% between 2019 and 2024, more than three times the rate of other international holidays. Meanwhile, the global luxury cruise fleet has more than tripled since 2010, from 28 ships to 98, according to Cruise Lines International Association. Against this backdrop, the issue explores how luxury travel is bringing together exceptional service, exclusive access and ambitious itineraries.

Sacha Scoging, editor, said: “My last great adventure took me to Haida Gwaii, a remote archipelago north of Vancouver Island. For eight days, I travelled between its wild southern islands aboard a small sailing yacht. Eagles patrolled the skies, black bears foraged along the shoreline and mighty fins cleaved the waves just beyond the bow. With no phone signal, I could simply sit on deck and watch the drama unfold — and somehow, that felt like the greatest luxury of all.”

It’s this spirit of discovery that we celebrate in this issue, exploring 15 journeys where the experience is as extraordinary as the destination — from road-tripping through the Swiss Alps in a supercar to floating over the Serengeti in a hot air balloon and exploring Greenland’s dramatic coastline aboard a luxury expedition ship.

A further feature examines a new generation of vessels redefining luxury at sea, including Aman’s first yacht, Amangati, which will be home to the largest spa in luxury yachting; Orient Express Corinthian, set to be the largest sailing yacht of its kind in the world; and Captain Arctic, a solar-sailed expedition ship with a strict no-wi-fi policy that encourages guests to immerse themselves in their surroundings.

Elsewhere in this edition:

  • Luxury with a conservation purpose: A journey from a private-island resort to the forests of Madagascar reveals how luxury tourism is helping to protect endangered lemurs.
  • A rare taste of the Arctic: A profile of the two women harvesting Arctic truffle seaweed on Norway’s Lofoten Islands for some of the world’s best kitchens.
  • Behind closed doors: An exploration of luxury travel’s exclusive-access boom, from private-island buyouts to after-hours palace tours.

All this, plus a roundup of the world’s finest resorts and retreats — brought to you by our advertising partners — to help you plan your next extraordinary escape.
