A category winner in the Photography Competition 2020 shoots National Geographic Traveller (UK) cover
The National Geographic Traveller (UK) Photography Competition, now back for its 10th year, is an opportunity for photographers to see their work featured in the magazine — and, in the case of Jordan Banks, on its cover, too.
Last August, the travel and lifestyle photographer won the Competition’s Cities category with what the judges described as a “mature, dynamic and striking image with excellent use of colour”. Fast forward a few months, and one of his photographs appeared on the cover of the magazine’s May 2021 issue, which had the theme of weekend escapes. “Having my work featured in, and on the cover of, such a prestigious publication as National Geographic Traveller has always been a dream of mine as a young photographer,” said Jordan. “It’s a real privilege to have been given this opportunity.”
Becky Redman, National Geographic Traveller’s art director, said, “It’s always a pleasure working with Jordan; he’s always super quick to respond to any call-outs we do for images. His archive is extensive when it comes to the UK, where he’s based, and he had just the right image we needed for our cover. He’s a fantastic travel photographer and his images are always wowing me.”
