The 19th edition of the event was held at the historic Fife Arms in Braemar, Scotland, bringing together leading editors from both sides of the Atlantic to discuss the evolving travel landscape.
Moderated by Travel Weekly editor-in-chief Arnie Weissmann, the roundtable featured key figures from publications including Afar, The Times and The Sunday Times, Culture Travels, Robb Report and Condé Nast Traveller. Discussions focused on themes such as:
- The changing meaning of ‘all-inclusive’ travel
- The impact of climate change on global tourism
- The rise of private-jet travel and slow tourism
- New patterns in consumer travel behaviour
Amanda offered perspectives on the evolving preferences of UK travellers, particularly the growing appeal of Northern Europe and Alpine destinations as alternatives to traditional sun-and-sea holidays — a trend driven by climate concerns and overtourism. She highlighted how ski resorts are adapting to warmer seasons by promoting summer activities like hiking and mountain biking.
Amanda shared, “Earlier this year, I was delighted to spend time in the Cairngorms, Scotland with editors from the US and UK, joining the annual travel trends ‘round table’ organised by Travel Weekly and hosted by its editor Arnie Weissman. Squirrelled away in a private room in the delightfully eclectic Fife Arms, we covered topics as wide-ranging as the effect of an unstable global economy on consumers’ travel plans to the impact of Ozempic weight-loss drugs on the restaurant industry. Discussion continued away from the actual round table, too – highlights for me included a Highland walk in the company of a ghillie, who delivered a stirring reading of Robbie Burns poem en route, and a tutored tasting of rare whiskies in the hotel’s Bertie’s Bar.”
The event also allowed attendees to explore the Cairngorms National Park, fostering discussions on responsible tourism and environmental stewardship.
Amanda’s participation reflects the editorial depth of National Geographic Traveller (UK) and its continued engagement with global conversations shaping the future of travel.
