APL Media welcomes latest interns across the editorial team
APL Media has welcomed a new cohort of interns to the team over the last few months, including editorial interns Charlotte Maracina and Lena Müller, and youth intern Carrie Slaughter. APL Media offers two internship opportunities: a three-month Editorial Internship for emerging talent looking to break into the publishing industry, and a four-week Youth Internship promoting inclusivity and diversity for people from underrepresented communities. Both provide valuable experience and support professional development at our Kentish Town-based office.
Charlotte Maracina
Charlotte Maracina joined APL Media as an editorial intern for three months ahead of completing her master’s degree at University of the Arts London. Originally from New York, Charlotte worked closely with the digital team, creating content for National Geographic Traveller (UK) and supporting various projects, including social media and events. She said: “I gained an in-depth understanding of the travel media industry and am grateful to everyone who helped me”. After her internship, Charlotte returned to New York to pursue a career in travel media. Karlina Valeiko, digital content editor at National Geographic Traveller (UK) said: “Charlotte brought fresh ideas and was keen to get involved. I was impressed with her progress.”
Carrie Slaughter
In December, youth intern Carrie Slaughter joined the Kentish Town office to continue her media career development. Carrie, a final-year social and political sciences student at the University of York, is spending four weeks at APL Media, working across its print and digital products, including National Geographic Traveller (UK).
“I applied for the APL Media Youth Internship because it’s an incredible opportunity to gain access to an industry I’ve always had great interest in,” said Carrie. “I’ve learned so much in my first week, from preparing articles for the website to using new systems. I’m most looking forward to researching and writing more articles.”
Carrie’s positive attitude is already evident. “Carrie’s been a delight to have on board,” said Olivia McLearon, chief sub-editor at APL Media. “She’s happy to take on any task, isn’t afraid to ask questions and has been a huge help during this busy time!”
Lena Müller
Lena, who started her editorial internship with APL Media in January 2025, is a recent graduate with a strong interest in travel and food journalism. She launched her own food journal in London after moving from Germany four years ago. At APL Media, Lena will support the digital team with content scheduling, research and writing tasks. “The editorial team’s warm welcome makes me excited to come to work every day,” she said. “Being surrounded by professionals with similar interests and skills is inspiring, and I’m eager to learn from them.”
Over the three-month internship, Lena aims to understand the editors’ responsibilities behind APL Media’s titles, including National Geographic Traveller (UK) and Food by National Geographic Traveller (UK). Ultimately, she would like to pursue a career as a commissioning editor in the food and lifestyle sector.
APL Media looks forward to continuing to support Charlotte, Carrie and Lena’s career aspirations. For more details about APL Media’s internship opportunities, visit our website: aplmedia.co.uk
