National Geographic Traveller (UK) editorial team wins big at the BSME Talent Awards 2023
APL Media is thrilled to announce that several members of the National Geographic Traveller (UK) editorial team have taken home prizes at the BSME Talent Awards 2023.
The BSME Talent Awards ‘celebrate achievement, best practice and groundbreaking editorial creativity among grass-roots teams across all print, web and social platforms’. There were 21 categories at this year’s awards, recognising achievements in everything from data journalism to feature writing.
APL Media’s winners were:
Best Art Team: This included Lauren Atkinson-Smith, Lauren Gamp, Kelly McKenna, Oliver Puglisi, Becky Redman, Dean Reynolds and Rosie Klein. Judges praised how ‘the multimedia art team have subtly updated the brand with eye-catching and elegant layouts, and beautifully tasteful covers, while staying true to its legacy’, describing the team as ‘at the top of their game’.
Best Picture Editor: Oliver Puglisi also took home the award for Best Picture Editor. ‘Oliver never fails to pick a striking image,’ said the judges. ‘At a time when picture editors risk becoming an endangered species, Oliver is redefining his role, judging awards and helping develop panel talks on the art of travel photography.’
In addition to APL Media’s winners, Amelia Duggan was Highly Commended in the Best Deputy Editor category. ‘Amelia is described by her boss as an organisational powerhouse,’ said the judges. ‘She runs the show with just the right amount of colour-coding.’
This recognition of APL Media’s team follows the success of Pat Riddell, editor of National Geographic Traveller (UK), being named Editor of the Year – Travel at the BSME Awards 2022.
