
Intern roundup: Meet APL Media’s latest cohort of rising talent
Since the beginning of May, APL Media’s editorial teams have welcomed a couple of bright minds seeking their first steps in travel journalism.
Over the course of the last six weeks, Billy Thomas became National Geographic Traveller (UK)’s most recent editorial intern, supporting the branded content, digital and print departments with day-to-day tasks and creative research. Since graduating with a BA in journalism with creative writing from the University of Portsmouth last summer, Billy was keen to understand the full editorial process and to learn “how to craft a pitch that will catch an editor’s eye”.
“I can happily say I’ve done all I set out to do — and much more!” shared Billy. “Everyone at APL Media has been incredibly helpful and were more than willing to answer any questions I had.”
Meanwhile, Daisy Temple joined the office for a day of work experience, where she was able to shadow multiple teams and received a first-hand insight into the inner workings of a publishing company.
“I found my time with APL Media engrossing, eye-opening and inspiring,” said Daisy. “The experience allowed me to gain a greater understanding into the type of career I’d like to pursue.”
