Internship spotlight: Elinor Davies recounts her peep behind the curtain of travel writing
During her internship placement, University of Oxford graduate Elinor Davies supported the teams across APL Media, gaining valuable insight into the workings of a fast-paced publishing company. Elinor has an ambition to establish herself in the travel media industry and was able to use her notable skills from placements at Good Food among other titles.
Having always enjoyed reading National Geographic Traveller (UK), she decided to, “Contact an editor about joining their internship scheme. They were kind enough to respond.”
Task during Elinor’s internship included:
- Assisting the National Geographic Traveller (UK) digital team with newsletters, editing and social media content
- Producing original stories for APL Media’s titles, including National Geographic Traveller (UK), ASTA WorldWide Destination Guide and Living360
- Working at the National Geographic Traveller (UK) Food Festival
- Sourcing press images and managing commissioned articles
She said: “This internship has only reinforced my love for the industry and I’m sure the skills and experiences I have gained will help with the next steps in my career in travel, food and lifestyle journalism. A special thanks must go to Karlina Valeiko for her steadfast mentorship and for always putting my best interests first.”
