Kiran Jethwa announced as host of the National Geographic Traveller Reader Awards 2016

LONDON (2 November 2016) — Kiran Jethwa will be hosting the National Geographic Traveller Reader Awards 2016, in association with Qatar Tourism Authority. The ceremony will take place in London this November, with the winners appearing in the Jan/Feb 2017 issue of National Geographic Traveller (UK).

Celebrating its sixth anniversary this year, National Geographic Traveller invited readers to vote for their favourite destinations, airlines, tour operators and more. The 2016 awards has seen an additional five categories added, and a record 7,957 responses — up nearly 2,000 from last year.

Pat Riddell, editor of National Geographic Traveller (UK), said: “We’re very excited to have Kiran presenting our second annual awards. As an up-and-coming TV personality with a taste for adventure travel and extreme food, he’s the perfect host for our main event of the year.”

Kiran Jethwa is the star of the Channel 4 series The Fearless Chef, Food Unwrapped and Extreme Food. Regarded as Kenya’s first celebrity chef, and widely recognised for his self-taught, adventurous approach to cooking, he’s also a keen traveller. The Fearless Chef, which follows Kiran as he travels around the globe, sees him discovering indigenous ingredients and extreme methods of harvesting.

In October 2010, Kiran opened his first restaurant, Seven Seafood & Grill, in Nairobi, which was soon followed by Seven Grill & Lounge establishments. Born in Kenya to an Indian father and an English mother, Kiran currently lives in Kenya with his wife, Sarah and their one-year-old daughter, Indiana.

Those who entered the National Geographic Traveller Reader Awards 2016 were automatically entered into a prize draw. Holiday prizes included a seven-night cruise of Northern Iceland on board a brand new, boutique 17-cabin yacht with Variety Cruises; and a seven-night ski trip to Austria, courtesy of VIP SKI. An Apple iPad mini 2, two Amazon Kindles and 20 National Geographic Traveller (UK) subscriptions were also up for grabs.
