The Masterclasses 2022 – what we learned from the second day

On the second day of The Masterclasses by National Geographic Traveller (UK), on 25 January, sessions looked at being on assignment.

The writing class discussed what to do when you’re out in the field, giving pointers on how to get the best information, while the photography webinar explored how to select the right kit, approach the best subjects and get those perfect shots when you’re on location.

Here are some tips from the pros:

Travel writing
When planning a solo trip, travel writer Delle Chan recommended getting in touch with a tourist board or PR company, as they can help you create an itinerary and set up interviews, as well as organise flights, hotels and transport.

Travel photography
Karolina Wiercigroch, a food and travel photographer specialising in culinary storytelling, stressed the importance of making sure the images are visually consistent and tell a story in a clear and consistent way.

Tickets are still available for Wednesday’s sessions. Click here to learn more and here to buy tickets.

If you’ve paid for a class but not been able to attend it, there’s no need to worry — when you bought your ticket, you’ll have received an email from us with a link that enables you to watch a recording of the class you paid for.

Each class costs £10 or £50 for all six. The links to the videos will be emailed to you upon payment.

The recordings will be available to watch from 11pm GMT on the night of the event until 23 February 2022.
