National Geographic Traveller (UK) Hotel Awards 2022 – top picks from our editors

National Geographic Traveller (UK) has published the full results of its annual Hotel Awards, celebrating the best new hotels across the world.

The results can be seen in the October 2022 issue of National Geographic Traveller (UK). Our editors have highlighted a few of their top picks from the list of winners.

Wilderness Safaris DumaTau, Botswana

Winner of our Good Egg award for the most sustainable hotel, DumaTau offers visitors the chance to immerse themselves in the wilderness of the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve. With just eight tented suites, the camp’s intimate setting and commitment to low-impact tourism stood out to our judges. Sustainability is at the heart of everything DumaTau does, with electricity provided by a powerful solar plant and guests invited to create dishes from a selection of seasonal, low-miles ingredients. From £1,250.

Gleneagles Townhouse, Edinburgh

Bringing a taste of the famous Scottish resort to the heart of Edinburgh, the 33-bed Gleneagles Townhouse is the winner of our City Slicker award for best urban hotel. Delivering a more flamboyant vibe than the original Gleneagles, this former bank is designed to impress. A guest- and members-only rooftop bar offers fine views of St Andrew Square, while the hotel boasts a cryotherapy chamber and infrared sauna in the building’s former vaults. From £330. gleneagles.com/townhouse

Six Senses Fort Barwara, India

Our Comeback Kid award for the best restoration celebrates hotels that breathe new life into former landmarks. The Six Senses team spent almost 10 years creating this new hotel in Rajasthan, transforming a 700-year-old former fort into a magnificent 48-suite property. Original features delight visitors, from ancient domes and temples to the soaring sandstone ramparts. Outside the walls, the team are working to rewild the surrounding forests and restore a nearby sacred lake to its former beauty. From £650, B&B.
