National Geographic Traveller (UK) teams shortlisted for Awards 2023 

APL Media is pleased to announce members of its editorial and creative teams for National Geographic Traveller (UK) and Food by National Geographic Traveller (UK), have been shortlisted for a number of prestigious industry awards for the BSME – The British Society of Magazine Editors on 21 November, PPA on 24 November and AITO – The Specialist Travel Association on 31 October. 

The BSME Awards 

Members of the National Geographic Traveller (UK) and Food by National Geographic Traveller (UK), editorial team have been shortlisted for the BSME Awards 2023 – the year’s biggest digital and print magazine awards – recognising the best editors across all sectors as well as standout art directors, columnists, launches and covers.  

Nominees from APL Media are: 

  • Glen Mutel has been shortlisted for Editor of the Year – Food & Drink, for Food by National Geographic Traveller (UK), thanks to his exceptional work in the realm of food and drink.  
  • Pat Riddell has been shortlisted for Editor of the Year – Travel, for National Geographic Traveller (UK). His dedication to delivering captivating travel content is truly commendable.
  • Becky Redman has been shortlisted for Art Director of the Year – Consumer, for National Geographic Traveller (UK), in recognition for her outstanding work on the publication.  

Becky said: “I’m thrilled to be nominated and excited to be part of the Oscars of the magazine world.”

PPA Awards Independent Publisher Awards 

The PPA Awards recognise and reward the talented people, innovative work and dynamic media publishers, suppliers and partners of our vibrant industry.  

  • National Geographic Traveller (UK) has been shortlisted for Consumer Publication of the Year and Cover of the Year, for the April Issue. The cover story focuses on 25 Greek islands, from big hitters like Crete and Santorini to lesser-known spots, including Agistri and Kythera.  
  • National Geographic Traveller (UK) Food Festival has been shortlisted for Event of the Year. Held at the Business Design Centre, London on 15-16 July 2023, the festival provided audiences with the opportunity to sample food and drink from around the world.  
  • Becky Redman has been shortlisted for Creative Director/Designer of the Year for National Geographic Traveller (UK). Her design team, with all their hard work on the publication and its many supplements, have also been shortlisted for Team of the Year.

AITO Awards 

Now in its 26th year, AITO awards celebrate the incredible talent across the travel writing sector. Expert judges from the industry have given their verdicts on entries based on four key tenets: how inspirational, informative, interesting and well-written they are. 

  • Farida Zeynalova has been shortlisted in the category of travel writer of the year (over 1,500 words) for ‘Bear Necessities’ in National Geographic Traveller (UK).
