National Geographic Traveller (UK)’s executive editor shares predictions in Lemongrass Travel Trends 2027 Report

Lorna Parkes, the executive editor of National Geographic Traveller (UK), has shared her insights into some of the key travel trends featured in the Lemongrass Travel Trends 2027 Report, published on 5 October.

The report gathers a variety of prestigious voices such as authors, academics and leading travel editors to identify 15 trends that are expected to shape travel and hospitality over the next year.

According to the report, 2027 will see a demand for slow and meaningful experiences rather than packed itineraries.

Lorna was asked to contribute her thoughts on ‘the giving journey’ — travellers’ growing desire to give back to the country they visit.

Among the key points she explored were:

  • The ‘giving’ trend isn’t just about exchange, but about forming equitable relationships between destinations and visitors.
  • The travel sector will launch more voluntourism initiatives in 2027, such as beach clean-ups.

Lorna said: “Every year, the editors at National Geographic Traveller (UK) take stock of what direction the travel industry has moved in over the course of the year — and where we think it’s heading as we move into 2027 and beyond. We’ve started to look at our own trends forecasting, so I was pleased to be asked to contribute to the Lemongrass Travel Trends 2027 Report.

“This year’s report points to what Lemongrass calls ‘a fundamental shift in traveller behaviour’. It’s certainly been an interesting year in travel — full of geopolitical complexities, changing travel patterns, and climate challenges. But travel wouldn’t be travel without a few curveballs each year.”
