The National Geographic Traveller (UK) Photography Competition 2026 closes in less than a month
With less than a month remaining until the National Geographic Traveller (UK) Photography Competition 2026 closes on 22 March, photographers across the UK and Ireland are invited to submit their strongest travel images before the deadline.
Once entries close, an expert panel of 11 judges will begin reviewing submissions across eight categories, selecting winners and runners-up whose work demonstrates originality, technical skill and unique storytelling.
This is a unique opportunity for entrants to see their work published in National Geographic Traveller (UK) and exhibited in a public showcase later in the year.
Two new categories for 2026
This year introduces two new categories that reflect the evolving landscape of photography.
The Aerial category recognises the striking perspectives made possible through drone photography. Spanning everything from geometric city grids to remote wilderness, this category invites images that reveal destinations from above and challenge conventional viewpoints.
The Rising Star category is designed to support emerging talent aged 18 to 25. Open to photography based around a broad travel theme, it offers younger photographers a platform to gain recognition within the industry.
The exhibition
Later in the year, the top selections from the competition will be displayed in a special six-week public exhibition at Granary Square in King’s Cross, one of London’s most dynamic cultural districts. Further details about the event will be announced in due course.
The grand prize
This year’s grand prize is an 11-day trip for two to Canada.
The winning photographer will embark on a self-drive journey through British Columbia, courtesy of Journeyscape.
In addition, each of the eight category winners will receive a subscription to National Geographic Traveller (UK) and a one-to-one mentor session with the magazine’s art director, Becky Redman, and picture editor, Ben Rowe.
Entries close at 11.59pm on 22 March 2026.
Photographers may submit images in up to eight categories. Full category guidelines, terms and conditions and entry instructions are available online.
