This week’s top travel trends
(Friday 13 December) Here are our favourite trends of the week:
Aviation trends for 2020
Skyscanner has released its Global Travel Trends 2020 report, based on global search and booking data from over 100 million monthly users. The report reveals this year’s most popular destinations — including the US, Spain and Japan — as well as emerging and good-value spots. It also highlights aviation trends — including business class losing out to premium economy on long-haul flights, and a desire for more comfort that’s driving both premium economy and business class on short-haul journeys.
South Wales named fastest-growing summer destination
British hoteliers enjoyed another successful summer, as a growing number of UK travellers opted for staycations. According to the latest data from Expedia, South Wales was the fastest-growing destination this summer, with over 35% year-on-year visitor growth. A number of other English regions experienced double-digit growth, including the Cotswolds (over 20%) and Yorkshire (almost 20%).
Wellness travel continues to grow
Wellness travel sales showed solid growth in 2019, according to Virtuoso. A survey conducted by the luxury travel network named meditation and mindfulness as the top wellness travel activities, with spiritual and mental wellness emerging as new trends. The survey also shows that Asian destinations are among the favourite wellness settings; while the US still tops the list, with Bali and Thailand close behind.
