This week’s top travel trends

(Thursday 7 November) Here are our favourite trends that have emerged this week:

Cheapest locations for a Christmas staycation
Snaptrip, an online marketplace for holiday rentals, has revealed the cheapest Christmas staycations for families and couples in the wake of the annual Global Travel Forecast, which reported on the rising costs of flights, hotels and transport. According to the findings, couples should consider Tyne and Wear, South Lanarkshire and Cambridgeshire, while families should opt for Leicestershire, Surrey or South Yorkshire.

Kuoni’s trending destinations for 2020
The travel experts at Kuoni have picked 10 destinations tipped for success in 2020. The top three spots celebrate India, which is becoming increasingly popular; Zimbabwe, back after years of instability; and the USA, which is now better connected thanks to new direct flights. Other destinations worth mentioning include Greece, Antigua and Mauritius, all of which are benefitting from new hotel openings.

The best regions to visit for wine lovers
Accor Hotels has ranked the world’s best wine-producing countries to help oenophiles choose where to travel. Unsurprisingly, France tops the chart, being the second-biggest wine producer globally — beaten only by Italy — and producing one of the world’s highest-rated wines. Italy and Spain grabbed the second and third spots respectively, while China — a relative newcomer in the world of wine — came in fifth place.
