Step Up intern focus: Nasreen Gordon

Travel Media Awards Step Up intern focus week two: Nasreen Gordon

This week’s Travel Media Awards Step Up intern spotlight is on Nasreen Gordon, who completed her first placement at Intrepid Travel and is approaching the end of her placement at Living360.

At her time with Intrepid, Nasreen attended the annual ABTA PR Training for Travel and Tourism event, hosted by 8020 Communications. It was a valuable opportunity to network with industry professionals and learn about strategic communications planning, as well as the challenges and opportunities that AI presents for travel PR.

For her final task, Nasreen prepared and presented a communications campaign to the PR team. She based the campaign on the idea that offering more beginner-friendly trips could help tour operators attract new audiences and potential customers. She received positive and constructive feedback on her campaign, ending her time with Intrepid on a high.

For her second placement, Nasreen has been supporting the lifestyle team at Living360. She’s gained a thorough understanding of editorial processes at Living360 and completed copywriting tasks for various newspaper supplements for The Telegraph and The London Standard. She helped with research tasks and used SEO tools to pitch ideas based on recent trends, finding unique angles and discussing potential article topics for upcoming months.

Nasreen is currently working on a long-form piece she pitched to the team about whether health trackers are helpful or harmful to our health. She’s greatly improved her writing skills, gained a wealth of insight from the editors and feels confident about entering the journalism space.

Nasreen said: “It’s been amazing to be part of the Living360 team over the last month and learn how its editorial team works. I’ve had a taste of so many different areas of editorial, from writing for newspaper supplements and pitching story ideas to using SEO tools to identify trends and develop engaging content.

“I’ve learned so much from the editors and their feedback has really helped me grow as a writer. I feel much more confident in my abilities and I’m excited to use the skills I’ve acquired during this internship throughout my journalism career.”

Check back for weekly updates as to what the interns have been up to.
