APL Media’s editorial department celebrates multiple nominations in the 2025 PPA and AITO awards  

This travel awards season is shaping up to be particularly successful for APL Media’s creative teams, thanks to a total of 13 nominations from the prestigious Professional Publishers Association and AITO – The Specialist Travel Association

From Writer of the Year to Consumer Publication of the Year, National Geographic Traveller (UK)’s teams have been acknowledged in a wide range of categories at the PPA Independent Publisher Awards 2025:  

  • Writer of the Year: Farida Zeynalova, National Geographic Traveller (UK) 
  • Consumer Publication of the Year: National Geographic Traveller (UK) 
  • Cover of the Year: Jan/Feb 2025 issue of National Geographic Traveller (UK) 
  • Designer of the Year: Becky Redman, National Geographic Traveller (UK) 
  • Editor of the Year: Pat Riddell, National Geographic Traveller (UK) 
  • Event of the Year (Consumer Media): National Geographic Traveller (UK) Food Festival  
  • Media Brand of the Year: National Geographic Traveller (UK) 
  • Newsletter of the Year: National Geographic Traveller (UK) 
  • Content Piece of the Year: The World’s Best Train Trips, National Geographic Traveller (UK) 

And three National Geographic Traveller (UK) editors as well as one freelancing contributor have been nominated for the AITO Travel Writer of the Year Award: 

  • Amanda Canning, National Geographic Traveller (UK) 
  • Lorna Parkes, National Geographic Traveller (UK) 
  • Georgia Stephens, National Geographic Traveller (UK) 
  • Ben Lerwill, Freelancer

Additional nominations for AITO’s Young Travel Writer of the Year 2025 were received by Sam Kemp, National Geographic Traveller (UK), and Sara Jane Armstrong, freelancer, respectively.

PPA Independent Publisher Awards 2025 winners will be announced at a formal celebration on 21 November, while the AITO awards will be presented at the AITO Annual General Meeting on 22 October.
