APL Media inspires the next generation of travel journalists at City, University of London
APL Media is pleased to share Kira Richards, assistant project editor, has been inducted into City, University of London’s journalism new wall of fame for her work in travel and food journalism.
After completing her undergraduate journalism degree at City in 2023, Kira has gone on to write for the Financial Times, National Geographic Traveller (UK), Food by National Geographic Traveller (UK), Adventure.com and more. She’s one of just three others to be featured on the wall, which aims to inspire students and provide insight into the careers of recent graduates.
Kira returned to the university in February to meet its students, answer their questions and provide insight into the world of travel media. She also outlined how the Travel Media Awards Step Up scheme — which was founded in 2023, welcomed its first cohort in summer 2024 and aims to drives diversity and inclusion in the sector through eight weeks of work placements — was a career-changing experience.
“It’s been a joy to return to City and speak to the next generation of talented journalists and media professionals,” said Kira. “The students’ enthusiasm, particularly about the travel media industry, was exciting to witness. I look forward to seeing their careers progress and feel grateful that the work I’ve done so far, particularly at APL, has been recognised on the updated Wall of Fame.”
